Target 4: At least ten per cent of the world's ecological regions effectively conserved

Whilst ‘hotspots’ of plant and fungal diversity are particularly important, conservation efforts should also be applied more widely at the landscape scale as a safeguard for the future. The provision of a functioning network of broad ecosystem types (such as montane or grassland) will help ensure that the landscape is more resilient and ‘plant friendly’, particularly in the face of climate change.
