Plants are essential to everyone's lives. Welcome to Plantlife.
Britain's 'West Country' boasts the longest stretch of coastline of any English region (702 miles or 1130km in total). Much of this is now protected. It's perhaps no surprise then that it provides a haven for coastal flora: the Portland, Dorset and south Devon coasts, Plymouth Sound and Land's End are all recognised as Important Plant Areas.
Further inland there is much to admire too. Exmoor and Dartmoor are famous for their heaths and are a haven for many rare lichens. The chalk downs of Wiltshire also offer sanctuary to rare grassland flowers such as the burnt orchid.
