International Support Officer
Terms: Full-time [2 year contract with potential to extend]
Location: Salisbury, UK
Salary: £23-25,000 depending on skills and experience
Plantlife seeks an effective and efficient individual with good communication skills to support the team implementing our flagship Important Plant Area projects in Europe. Our aim for this new role is to take increasing responsibility over time for project management and delivery, and to be closely involved in the development and delivery of subsequent longer-term programmes.
Plantlife is known around the world for driving the conservation of Important Plant Areas (IPAs). IPAs are internationally important sites for wild plants that are identified according to standardised criteria. We have recently begun two new multi-country projects in Europe, which will deliver IPA conservation through engaging and involving the public (both experts and non-experts) in cultural, ecological and social activities for the benefit of wild plants on and around these sites.
Key skills for this role are the ability and willingness to undertake a range of project management tasks including general and financial administration, communication with partners and donors, report writing, creative writing, travelling to visit project sites, giving presentations to technical and non-technical audiences. The successful candidate will love wild plants, be outgoing and positive, have the ability to get on well with individuals and teams from diverse cultural backgrounds and to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders via email, telephone and face-to-face. A background in plant conservation will be advantageous but is not essential.
This position is a good starting point for someone at the beginning of their career in international nature conservation. With an initial contract period of 2 years there is considerable potential for development of this role given an appropriately enthusiastic and motivated individual.
Legal permission to work in the UK is a prerequisite for this role.

Species-rich wildflower meadows and grasslands are the UK’s most diverse yet threatened habitats. The project has received a development grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to deliver a number of key actions and to develop a full funding application for major National Lottery support.
