How to record the habitat

For each record there is space to record the habitat in which the plants are growing.

For large colonies, there may be several habitats, please tick all relevant habitats that the population recorded occurs in. A description of the different habitats in which you might find juniper is given below:

Moorland Large, open areas dominated by heathers & other heathland species over peat
Grasslands
Includes downland, pasture & meadows, improved grassland
Broadleaved woodland and scrub
Ground dominated by trees where over 20% are broadleaved. Includes recent plantings and areas of broadleaved scrub.
Conifer woodland including pinewoods
Includes native pinewoods & plantations
Coastal
Less than 1 km from the sea, includes dunes, shingle, sea cliffs & machair
Enclosed farmland
Fields & field margins
Boundary features, eg
Linear features (including bends) including hedgerows, verges, grass strips, lines of trees
Inland rock
Includes cliffs, quarries, scree & limestone pavement
Montane
Above 500 m, characterised by short plants, subject to severe wind.
