Target 12: 30 per cent of plant-based products derived from sources that are sustainably managed

Plants and their derivatives provide a range of products including fuel, food, shelter and medicines. In the UK, plant-based products are produced mainly on a small scale (e.g. through coppicing for charcoal or foraging for wild herbs), but places a greater demand on products that are imported from overseas. Sustainable management of these systems relates to environmental as well as social and economic issues, including fair trade and the participation of indigenous and local communities.
