At the BioBlitz!

Plantlife Scotland recently participated in Chris Packham’s UK Bioblitz 2018 – Nature Reserves Are Not Enough.

It was great to be able to attend the Bioblitz event, which was hosted by Forest Enterprise Scotland at Callendar Wood, near Falkirk. We led an enthusiastic group of visitors into the wood to record a whole host of plant species, and we had the chance to speak to Chris about our work across Scotland.

This two-week long tour of wildlife hotspots throughout the UK has been designed to raise awareness of the plight of the UK’s wildlife. Outside of nature reserves, much of the countryside is hostile to nature – a ‘green, unpleasant land’ as the campaign calls it! Chris Packham is leading calls to restore the countryside and bring back its wildlife.

Plantlife Scotland are also working towards this aim, calling for a National Ecological Network joining up protected sites to enable species to move through the countryside, and for better support for farmers and landowners to enable them to do the right thing for wild plants.

What we do is only made possible by your generosity and support.
