Plantlife is the organisation that is speaking up for the nation’s wild plants.
We are the only UK organisation dedicated to conserving wild plants and fungi in the places where they occur naturally.
We are able to do our vital conservation work only because of the generosity of our members and supporters. Their funding support means we are able to plan and deliver our work programmes across the UK.
However, because wild plants have been neglected for so long there is a great deal left to do:
- One in five UK wild flowers is threatened with extinction
- Each county is losing, on average, one wild flower species every two years
- 98% of the UK’s flower rich meadows have been destroyed
Despite these alarming statistics, wild plants remain the poor relations of the wildlife world in terms of the funding resources available for nature conservation. The vast majority of government grants are currently spent on more high profile species such as birds.
