Plants are essential to everyone's lives. Welcome to Plantlife.
Become a Flora Friend
Flora Friends at an event © Plantlife
Flora Friends are Plantlife members who help us raise the profile of wild plants and recruit new members and supporters by leading activities such as those listed below.
If you register to become a Flora Friend you receive information and support and (when applicable) training, an informal ‘contract’, and the reimbursement of expenses.
Flora Friends who regularly volunteer over a period of time receive a certificate in recognition of their efforts, and may feature in our magazine and on our website.
You can help spread the message about wild plants by:
- Giving the new Plantlife Talk - Speaking up for wild plants (for example, to gardening societies, wildlife groups, Townswomen’s Guilds, etc) using our powerpoint presentation pack: we give you training and support on how to recruit new members and raise the profile of wild plants this way. We help you generate your own opportunities for giving talks, and we also get in touch when we receive requests for talks near you. When confirmed as a regular Plantlife talks-giver, we list you on our website with a profile, so people can contact you direct.
- Having a Plantlife stand or presence at events near you, giving out information and leaflets
- Nominating friends and family members to receive information about our work, encouraging them to join us
- Placing our leaflets and information in appropriate outlets, including leafletting round your neighbourhood, and at local sympathetic venues
- Holding local events such as walks, talks, meals or coffee parties in aid of Plantlife
- Writing or talking about Plantlife and the local flora in your local media – for example a newspaper, hobby magazine or even your parish magazine
- Forming a local Plantlife group.
A big thank you to all those who have done so much to help us already. Read about their experiences below.
Mike Watts:
“In this past year, I gave seven talks to various groups… (they) are
often surprised and always concerned to hear about the decline in
Britain’s wild plants and pleased to be told about Plantlife’s work to
save them.”
Pauline Fletcher:
“Giving wildflower talks for Plantlife lets me combine many interests –
visiting local sites to take slide photos, meeting lots of new people,
fund-raising and helping to spread the word!”
Mary Smith:
“All kinds of groups and clubs invite me to give the Plantlife show, especially gardeners and wildlife conservation groups.”
