Good news for orchids on our Welsh meadow reserves
Every June, we do a count of rare butterfly orchids at our two reserves in Wales.
This year we had a record number of volunteers help us survey. We had a lot of flowers to count so every pair of eyes was needed. Here is what we found...
- A whopping 4,000 greater butterfly-orchids have been counted at our Gwynedd reserve, Caeau Tan y Bwlch!
- Along with a host of other wild flowers, 1,530 greater butterfly-orchids and 792 lesser butterfly-orchids were recorded at Cae Blaen Dyffryn in Carmarthenshire.
We’ll be analysing the survey results and checking them with previous years to make sure we continue managing the reserves in a way which allows these wonderful wild flowers to thrive.
