Venus’s looking-glass Legousia hybrida
|Best Time to See|
The shining oval fruits which appear inside the seed-capsule give rise to the name, which are said to resemble brilliantly polished brass hand-mirrors.
The plant can grow to about 25cm but can be as short as 3cm, and has small, typically dark or pale mauve flowers, although they can also be white.
The seed capsule is a distinctive 3cm long cylinder and can be seen during the flowering months. The leaves are also noteworthy as they have distinctive wavy edges.
Grows mainly in central-southern and eastern parts of England.
