Ceredigion Bogs IPA has been recognised as one of 165 Important Plant Areas in the UK.

The key features of this IPA are:

  • The species richness of bryophytes in bogs.
  • One of the best UK examples of threatened habitats of:
    Raised bogs with growing sphagnum
  • These bogs, around the River Teifi and Dyfi estuary in Wales contain the most intact surviving example in the UK of a raised bog landscape.

Despite having suffered extensive damage as a consequence of past drainage and peat cutting, they still maintain a good quality of active bog vegetation, including bryophytes, sedges and vascular plants.
