The estate around Filleigh is a fine example of parkland and wood pasture, dating back hundreds of years. This 826 acre wooded park lies on the north and south facing slopes of the River Taw in North Devon.

Its trees, some centuries old and principally oak, ash beech and other long lived species, support rich populations of mosses and lichens. One species of particular note is the string of sausage lichen, Usnea articulate.
