Northwest Anglesey Heaths and Seacliffs IPA

Location: Holy Island, off the north Wales coast. The cliffs run from west of Holyhead to Silver Bay.

Northwest Anglesey Heaths and Seacliffs IPA has been recognised as one of 165 Important Plant Areas in the UK.

The key features of this IPA are:

  • One of the UK’s most important populations of spatulate fleawort.
  • One of the best UK examples of threatened habitats of:
    Dry heaths;
    Vegetated sea cliffs of the Atlantic coast
  • The cliffs of Holy Island, off the Anglesey coast of north-west Wales, support important examples of coastal cliff heathland vegetation.

    In addition to maritime heath with several rare species such as spotted rock-rose, there are extensive maritime cliff-crevice and grassland communities.
