Cheshire

Cuckooflower (Cardamine pratensis)

Cuckooflower (Cardamine pratensis)

This delicate flower of wet meadows and pond margins seems the perfect choice for a county with more ponds than any other. Its country name, milkmaid, reminds us that Cheshire is also a dairy county.

Habitat: wet grassland. Flowers: April-June.
