Isle of Wight

Pyramidal Orchid (Anacamptis pyramidalis)

Pyramidal Orchid (Anacamptis pyramidalis)

The Isle of Wight has a surprisingly poor Orchid flora. The exception is this one which abounds on the undercliff and across the island's hog's-back of chalk in June. They look a bit bigger and brighter than elsewhere too.

Habitat: grassy places. Flowers: June-July.
