Leeds

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus)

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus)

The sweet-sharp flavour of bilberries somehow embodies the taste of the outdoors. They are also a symbol of the open air of the hills, especially around Leeds, where the plant will be forever associated with the novels and poetry of the Bronte sisters.

Habitat: moors and open woods. Flowers: May-June.
