Common Dog-violet (Viola riviniana)

Common Dog-violet (Viola riviniana)

Lincolnshire chose the Common Dog-violet, which carpets the great limewoods of Bardney Forest near Lincoln. ‘Dog' means it lacks scent, as opposed to ‘sweet' violet.

Habitat: woods and hedgebanks. Flowers: April-May.
