Bloody Crane's-bill (Geranium sanguineum)

Bloody Crane's-bill (Geranium sanguineum)

The vivid magenta flowers of Bloody Crane's-bill adorn coastal cliffs and dunes in Northumberland and also spread inland on the rocks of the Whin Sill.

Perhaps an appropriate choice for a county with a romantic but undeniably bloody history of border wars and coastal raiding.

Habitat: dry rocks and sea-cliffs. Flowers: July-August.
