Fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris)

Fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris)

Some of the best-known fritillary fields are in Oxfordshire, along the flood-meadows of the Thames. The purple bells nod on their snaky stalks at Magdalen Meadow in the heart of the university city.

Habitat: wet meadows. Flowers: April-May.
