Heather (Calluna vulgaris)

Surprisingly, Heather was chosen by an English, rather than a Scottish county. Staffordshire is proud of its Heather moors, blooming purple beyond the potteries and manufacturing towns.

Habitat: moors. Flowers: August-September.
