Round-headed Rampion (Phyteuma orbiculare)

Round-headed Rampion (Phyteuma orbiculare)

Known as the Pride of Sussex, the ‘sharp-blue' flowers are more common on the South Downs than anywhere else. Close up it looks rather like a sea anemone about to curl around an unlucky fly.

Habitat: chalk grassland. Flowers: July-August.
