Burnt Orchid (Orchis ustulata)

This exquisite dwarf Orchid belongs to the chalky core of Wiltshire. Once much more common, it holds on in short downland turf, and occasionally strays into meadows.

Habitat: chalk downs. Flowers: May-June.
