Armagh

Cowbane (Cicuta virosa)

Cowbane (Cicuta virosa)

More common in Northern Ireland than England, the frothy blossoms of Cowbane adorn ponds and ditches in County Armagh. In many places it has been eradicated because, as the name implies, it is poisonous to cattle.

Habitat: marshes and ditches. Flowers: July-August.
