Hypericum linariifolium
Toadflax-leaved St John’s-wort

Hypericum linariifolium

Hypericum linariifolium

This little plant has lovely golden-yellow starry flowers with small leaves appearing in pairs down the stem. It is rare in all the countries of Europe with an Atlantic coast, and grows nowhere else in the world.

The plant favours steep, rocky places, and can be found in nine places in Britain, two in north Wales and five in Devon and Cornwall. The vast majority of its population is in the Teign Valley in Dartmoor; where conservation work has given it a much more secure future. However at many sites it is threatened by the overgrowth of scrub and other coarse plants.

Classified as Near Threatened.
