Chara Connivens Convergent Stonewort
A simple water plant with whorls of narrow leaf-like branches along its length. It is slender and fragile with no spines and the whorls are far apart.
It grows in still ponds and pools, mainly in chalk or limestone areas. It is found at only five sites, two in Devon and three in Norfolk. Nutrient enrichment of the water from fertilisers is probably its main threat, but another is smothering by stronger water plants, particularly invasive non-native plants.
Classified as Endangered.
