Get involved in Wales
We would be delighted if Welsh members can contribute to our Common Plants Survey. For more information on taking part see the UK volunteers page.
Flora Guardians
There are currently 180 volunteer Flora Guardians in Wales. Many of these contribute to our programme of work days and survey days on sites where Back from the Brink species grow. Recent events include:
- Survey of Sword-leaved Helleborine at Aberdovey and Llanberis
- Survey of Three-lobed Water-crowfoot and Chamomile on Gower and Anglesey
- Work day to remove scrub on a Deptford Pink site at Aberystwyth
- Survey of Spreading Bellflower near Monmouth
- Work day to excavate shallow pools for Three-lobed Water-crowfoot on Gower
- Work day to recover Spreading Bellflower in the Forest of Dean
Other Flora Guardians monitor sites for Back from the Brink species in Wales. Adopting sites close to where they live, populations of rare species are surveyed once each year and provide us with vital “eyes on the ground”. Initial training is provided by Plantlife and their records act as an early warning system for any adverse changes in habitat quality and species quantity.
Flora Guardians also play a vital role in surveying our reserves annually. If you live near Caernarfon (Gwynedd) or Lampeter (Carmarthenshire), you may like to help out with the annual vegetation survey and orchid counts on our reserves. All the help and equipment is provided on the day, with training from Plantlife.links
