A white orchid with a deep crimson peak - the "burnt tip" in question.
It was once more common than it is now. The burnt-tip orchid holds on in short downland turf, and occasionally strays into meadows. It is the County Flower of Wiltshire, where the largest colonies can be found.
Distribution
Confined to a scattering of sites in southern England, especially the Wiltshire Downs.
Habitat
Chalk downs.
Best time to see
Flowers from May to June.
