This plant is believed to be a low-growing form of the much more widespread Common spotted-orchid.
It was chosen as the County flower of the Western Isles following a poll by Plantlife in 2002 and is often seen on the open machair (sandy grassland) of the Outer Hebrides.
Habitat
Sandy grassland (machair).
Best time to see
Undoubtedly when it flowers from June to August.
