A pretty white flower with distinctive, fleshy leaves. Sea Campion is related to the carnation.
Other names by which it is known are 'dead man's bells', 'witches' thimbles' and 'Devil's hatties'.
Distribution
Coastlines throughout the UK.
Habitat
Sea Campion grows atop cliffs and amongst shingle.
Best time to see
Flowers from June to August.
Did you know?
According to folklore, Sea Campion should never be picked for fear of tempting death. Given its habit of growing on the edge of cliff-tops, this was probably apt advice!
