Whorled caraway

A frothy blossom.

Whorled caraway derives its name from the way its leaves form a circlet - or 'whorl' - around the base of its stem.

It is a relative of the spice caraway (Carum carvi) but has no culinary or medicinal use.

Habitat

Damp meadows.

Best time to see

When it flowers July-August.

County flower of Carmarthenshire/Sir Gaerfyddin.

This is a signature plant of the diminishing damp, 'rhos' (rough) pastures of Carmarthenshire.
