Plantlife Visits No. 10
I'm happy to report that myself and Plantlife's Director of Strategy Ben McCarthy recently had a meeting with the Special Advisor on the Environment in the Prime Minister's Office. One of the things we discussed was our Grasslands Action Plan to save, protect and love meadows.
At the meeting we highlighted the tremendous support - 150,000 and counting - for the Change.org petition calling on government to get serious about protecting our magnificent but rapidly vanishing meadows, and arresting the disastrous declines in our butterflies and bees - something we raised in the media this July.
After years of tireless campaigning for our magnificent meadows it was exciting to be able to share with the Prime Minister's Office our ambitions and also flag just how many people in Britain want to see real action to protect our remaining 3% of meadows.
There is currently no proper mapping of meadows and that needs to change; unless we have a firm grip on where our remaining meadows actually are it will be impossible to save and protect them.
To show you care about the future of our meadows please take a few moments to sign and share the petition and also write to your MP and other elected representatives urging them to take the first step: back the urgent call for a national inventory of British meadows .
