Veilwort Pallavicinia lyellii
|Status||Amber - Vulnerable and Near-Threatened|
|Best Time to See|
A bright green liverwort.
It is currently restricted to a few sites in the south of England, and a couple of sites in Wales.
Bare peaty soils in lowland bogs and damp woodland and also on moist sandstone rocks.
It is classified as Vulnerable in Europe.
Veilwort is poor at sexual reproduction, partly because only one sex is present at some sites. Other threats are thought to be wetland drainage and both over-shading due to scrub encroachment and overexposure due to tree clearance.
