Nicola Hutchinson – Director of Conservation and Deputy Chief Executive

Nicola leads the strategic development and operational delivery of our conservation programmes. This includes projects and partnership activities across the UK and globally, nature reserves, science, policy and advocacy.

Working with Plantlife for over two decades, Nicola is inspired by the knowledge and passion of her colleagues, and the critical need for nature recovery to be undertaken at greater scales.  Following degrees at Sheffield and York in ecology and environmental management, Nicola began her conservation career using data and mapping to support species recovery.  She expanded her portfolio to lead species recovery programmes and has worked extensively on external advocacy for Plantlife.  Majoring on biodiversity policy, for 10 years Nicola was a trustee and Vice-Chair of Wildlife and Countryside Link.

Today Nicola is based out of our office in Retford, Nottinghamshire.  She visits and works with all members of the Conservation Team to establish new endeavours and promote Plantlife’s primary focus on species recovery, grassland and temperate rainforest.
