Plantlife is working with Velcourt to explore how nature restoration can be integrated alongside production to support sustainable farming businesses.
Velcourt is a UK-based farming and land management company, working in partnership with landowners to manage farms, estates and rural businesses. Combining hands-on agricultural expertise with strategic insight, they support long-term, sustainable and profitable land management. With over 50,000 hectares under Velcourt’s management, the partnership offers a significant opportunity to drive change in land management practices at scale.

Together, we are working to unlock new income streams for farmers and deliver nature recovery at scale, creating a lasting environmental and economic legacy. We have piloted this approach on 4 Velcourt farms, with support from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Environment Agency and Natural England via the Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund (NEIRF), using Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) as the mechanism.
“The process has been very much a two-way conversation, sharing ideas and looking at what they mean on each farm. Being able to discuss things with Plantlife all the way through has been great, and we’ve both learned a lot about how this all fits together.
As a farmer managing land for someone else, I’ve always felt a responsibility to leave it in better condition than I found it. This type of project really allows us to create something with a legacy – something that will hopefully endure far beyond the next 30 years.”
The pilot project marks the beginning of a longer-term collaboration. Together, we are committed to developing and scaling this approach across more farms within Velcourt’s network.
By combining practical delivery with ecological expertise, we are building models that work for individual farms while delivering high-quality nature restoration. As our partnership grows, we will continue to share learning to help inspire wider change across the sector.
