Whether you’re starting your meadow journey from scratch or searching for funding to support your community meadow, our experts have the answers.
Smaller garden meadows can be relatively cheap to create or manage, but larger areas can be more expensive, depending on what is required.
We’ve collated some common questions about cost you might have and
Understandably, the cost of creating a meadow ultimately depends on the size, scale and seeding options.
Smaller areas, such as a garden, are relatively cheap to turn into wildflower meadows. The cost of seed to cover 50sqm ranges from about £20-£30. Before sowing, the ground can be prepared with normal garden tools, or more specialised equipment, like a garden scarifier, can be hired for the day for about £50. Ongoing management can often be done with garden tools.
Larger green spaces such as community meadows, parks or village greens do require a more financial support. The price can range from £800-3,000 per hectare – including all aspects of making and managing a meadow (plant control, ground preparation and seeding).
